Welcoming Kemba Najuma Opio to The Women’s Gallery!

Kemba Opio

We are thrilled to introduce Kemba Najuma Opio, one of the newest artists at The Women’s Gallery!

An Austin-based contemporary figurative painter and multidisciplinary artist, Kemba’s work captures the beauty and complexity of the human experience. Her bold figurative imagery—layered with symbolism, patterns, and text—blends tradition with a fresh, modern perspective.

Working across mediums—painting, mixed media, photography, and sculptural metal—Kemba explores themes of duality, identity, and transformation. Her distinctive style invites viewers to look deeper, revealing layers of meaning within each piece.

Extrovert + Introvert

Kemba earned her BFA in Fashion Design with a minor in Painting from Savannah College of Art & Design. She has exhibited nationally since 2008 at venues such as Hammond House Museum in Atlanta, Venice Arts Center in Los Angeles, and ArtSpace 111 in Fort Worth.

Her public art career began in 2016 with a commission from the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, leading to her first permanent installation in 2018. Today, her sculptural works can be found in cities including Denver and Austin.

The Study #2

With over 15 years of experience in design and creative industries, Kemba brings vision, discipline, and a collaborative spirit to every project. We are honored to showcase her thought-provoking work at The Women’s Gallery and invite you to experience it in person!
